The community is invited to the official groundbreaking ceremonies for Phase II of the Frederiksted Revitalization Project at ll a.m. on Thursday, July 6 at the Paul E. Joseph Stadium site.
Governor Kenneth E. Mapp encouraged residents to come out and learn more about economic development and infrastructure improvement projects for Frederiksted, to include the Paul E. Joseph Sports Complex, Terrance Martin Softball field and Festival Village. The project has long been part of Governor Mapp’s vision for the renewal of St. Croix’s west end and he laid the groundwork more than 10 years ago as then Director of the V.I. Public Finance Authority. The Mapp-Potter Administration prioritized the development and redesign of the planned facility, to include essential flood mitigation efforts. These flood control measures were incorporated into the overall design, which will reflect Frederiksted’s unique historic architecture.
“This is not just about building a stadium,” Governor Mapp said “It is about the revitalization of the town of Frederiksted – creating functional and vibrant public spaces remains critical.”
Project details will be made available at next week’s groundbreaking ceremony. Motorists are advised that the portion of Route 7029 or Prince Street in front of the Paul E. Joseph site will be closed until further notice.
